Belfast: A City Shaped by Conflict

Decades of civil unrest in Belfast have had an inescapable impact on the city's growth and evolution. The most obvious scars in the built environment are the city’s numerous peace walls. But this speculative walking tour also uncovers some of the more subtle, surprising ways in which The Troubles have influenced the shape of the city we see today, in the design of buildings, land usage and infrastructure.

Starting at the oft-bombed Europa Hotel, this fascinating walk will take in back-to-front residential areas, roads masquerading as interfaces, the remnants of once-grand streetscapes - and will point to the potential of ‘peace-time architecture’.

The tour departs the Europa Hotel, Great Victoria Street.
